Dearest Diary,

I have been shipwrecked! Rags and I are safe, but I'm not sure for how long. It is a long story.

It all started in Orgrimmar on my way back from home and wanted to get started on my Winter Veil shopping. I still have not figured out what to get for Caeryn this year, and she was no help at all when I talked to her about it. She pretends she does not like Winter Veil, but that is silly. I decided that I would try shopping in Booty Bay.

As we left Orgrimmar (I still cannot find my way around there - it is terrible!) I overheard some people talking about an new boat dock just outside the city. Rags and I decided to check it out. Before I knew it some loud Orc was hollering and pushing everyone onto the boat. I did not even have a ticket! When I tried to explain, no one wouldlisten. Then the boat left and we were stuck.

I tried to find out where we were headed, but no one would tell me. The the worst thing ever happened. You will not even believe it. A sea monster attacked the boat! It was terrible and frightening. The ship broke apart and I was sinking. Luckily Rags found me and I hugged him tightly as we went down. We ended up inside a wrecked ship at the bottom of the sea. I think a mermaid saved us, but I cannot be sure.

There are a couple other people alive here, and in a minute Rags and I are going to swim out to see if we can find anyone else. I have to do what I can.

People are talking about the leaked lore, class and world stuff that might be coming in the new expansion. Most of it seems fine to me - I figure it makes sense that races would be able to learn new things, ala tauren paladins, etc. Some of the lore stuff strikes me as a bit wonky, though.

It's no secret I'm not a fan of the Garrosh character (who is?) and that certainly plays into my feelings about the possible changes. As I was thinking about the possible new lore changes and the previous retcons Blizzard has done this (hopefully funny) scene popped into my head.

A short scene between Thrall and Garrosh... I mean Aragorn and Boromir )

Dear Diary,

I am a Champion.

An official champion. There is a tournament in the North and we were invited to participate. We get to send two champions to represent the Zephyrs. Bloodaxe got nominated right away. He is probably the best fighter around, along with Roshanar and Saurfang. Everyone agreed that he should go. Then Caeryn was nominated, but she said that she could not do it. Then, Washue suggested that I do it! Bloodaxe and Grubgrabber were not so sure, but I told them that I had done the games already. They grumbled a bit, but eventually agreed. Caeryn said she thought it was a good idea, too!

I am so excited I can hardly stand it. These tournament games are the greatest!

Dearest Diary,

I know it has been a while since I wrote to you. Sorry about that. Things have been going pretty good. The tavern is steady, and we have picked up some new help. The new girl, Vestele, seems very nice. I think she will fit in nicely. Our new cooks are doing pretty okay, seeing as that position is doomed or cursed or some such thing. They come pretty often, which as you know is a big improvement from the cooks that we used to have that vanished from the face of Azeroth. So all in all things are doing good. With the tavern, anyway.

There is some other troubling news. Caeryn had not been around for a couple days, but what with her mysterious jobs for the Under City I was not too worried. Then, last night, she was talking on the shell. She was saying that she was being held in the Under City and she would be out soon. She also said she was supposed to be executed! I was worried that someone was forcing her to talk to us, so I told her a secret code phrase to use if we needed to come and rescue her. She said that if we did come to her rescue she would "slit my throat". It was then that I knew someone was forcing her to talk to us, probably at knife point! Caeryn would never threaten her family like that. The Forsaken are up to something.

I need to find my hat.

I am going to be a fight promoter! Aud has the greatest of all ideas, and that's saying something considering some of the great ideas she has had, and we are going into the fight business. Aud says there is a place in Dalaran that we can rent out on the cheap to hold fights and get rich!

But not just any kind of fights. These will be fixed fights. That way, we can make money. Audre says that money is one of the most important things, along with being famous. I think she is right.

She said I have to figure a way to get to Dalaran. I told her "no problem, I'm magic!". I heard they have the best shops with the most amazing clothes and stuff from anywhere in Dalaran. Aud said I could wear a costume and everything.

Even a mask!

Dearest Diary,

A nice Tauren fellow named Tiis gave me a pretty little trinket. It's like a jewel or something, but not a gem. Or maybe it is. I do not know. On the top it has a carving on it. It is like a little maze that you follow with your eyes. It is so pretty. I like to take it out and try to follow the maze from start to finish, but I never seem to be able to find the end. That is pretty weird, huh?

I keep the maze in my bag so I can take it out and look at it whenever I want. I told Mr Tiis that I would ask people about it and show it around to see if they know anything. I wish I could show it to Caeryn. I will have to be sure to remember to show it to Gaurth next time I see him. I bet he will like it, too. I was going to show him last night at the tavern, but somehow I forgot. Well, it was very busy.

I think Caeryn is mad at me. She was saying that I have to go back to the North and not just be a plain old barmaid. She said that I need to "do something with my life", and she said that I should not end up like she was. Or something like that. I do not know what to do.

Dearest Diary,

I am tired of orcs. The ones that I have seen here in the north all seem to think only of war. War, and cruelty, and brutality. I have moved through a number of "our" camps and have listened, always on the fringes and from the shadows lest I be dragged away and conscripted, as they call it, to fight. Caeryn told me to be careful and quiet, and I am now doing as I was told. The leaders of these fortresses of violence are brutal and show no signs of compassion. They remind me of the humans at Lordamere.

Dearest Diary,

I am on His trail. I have left the Horde camps behind, they are way too war oriented, and have fallen in with the Tuskarr. They are round and adorable and I like them very much. They seem to like me too. They have long tusks and the most charming mustaches you have every seen. Even the younger ones have mustaches! I have been helping them by making soup, helping clean fish and gathering supplies.

My armor is not warm and does nothing to keep out the bitter wind. It fits too tightly for me to put more than one layer underneath it. I packed a sleeping fur in my haversack, but even that was not enough to keep out the cold. I sleep in the Tuskarr huts when I can - they are shaped like fish! - but it is still cold. Even with the fur, a camp fire and Rags to snuggle I end up shivering. It is not like my cabin with the warm stove, thick blankets and soft bed.

Yesterday I received a rather sizable bundle from Mr Kraal. Inside was a set of the most marvelous cold weather armor. I bet he learned to make it from the Tanuka. I am not sure how he knew how big I my sizes, but the armor fits perfectly. It has plenty of room and is warm. I will still need the fur to sleep at night, but this is a big improvement.

I do not think Great Father Winter lives in this area. The Tuskarr do not seem to know much about him. I think maybe he lives further north. I have heard some of the Tuskarr talk about a large castle in the snow north of the Moa'Ki Harbour. Perhaps he lives there? They also talk about a magical forest. That sounds promising too! I will venture further North in the next day or two. I need to keep searching.

I hope to see some of my friends soon as well. I am saving the Cider for when I run into them.

Dearest Diary,

The North is cold. I should be used to it, living in Winter Spring and all, but this is a different kind of cold. I need to remember to pack an extra sleeping fur before I leave. My armor does okay, but even with the long underwear I still shiver. I saw an adorable fur outfit in one of the Tanuka villages. I may have to buy it.

Still no sign of Great Father Winter. I talked to a few of the Tanuka, thinking they might have some clues. They do not. It is hard to look for him without actually asking people if they have seen him, but Caeryn was pretty clear about me not telling anyone about my mission. I have only told a few people, and written a few letters, and talked to that nice orc on the zeppelin. Tomorrow I will try to talk to one of the Tuskar about him. They are adorable!

Washue is looking after my cabin and all my pets while I am away. She is such a sweetheart. I will have to find a gift for her. I got some drinks from Mr Kraal and Ogu. I need to get in touch with him to help me search.

I got two new books in the mail! One was from Caeryn and the other was from Darda. I have such good friends. They both sent the same book - it is always good to have extra copies - and I started reading it on the Overnight Zeppelin. In Darda's letter she said that she had highlighted the "good bits" in the book. She sure highlighted some naughty parts. I am not sure what she meant by the notes in the margins about "physically impossible".

Did you know that the main character in the new book is a Forsaken? She is a "rogue" and is brave and daring. She wears a dagger in her belt and she gets what she wants. You know, she kind of reminds me of Caer...

Gotta go.

At Wintertime, when the weather here becomes bitter cold and it is often dark on my way both to and from the office, I am reminded of a verse of a poem. It's also a Christmas Carol, but I really only remember the first verse.

These days it is also brought to mind when I'm in the icy reaches of Northrend.

In the Bleak Midwinter

by Christina Rossetti

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen,
Snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter,
Long ago.
